God is good. Life is good because God is good. Would you guys like a narrative of what happened the other day?
Well, here goes.
I will entitle this Mock Trial Retreat.
It happened not too long ago. The K.s picked me up around 5:00pm and took me to the appointed place of meeting. When we arrived there were already several people there.
We put our stuff in the rooms and signed in. (We as in: Nate, Matt, Kyle, and myself). Mr. A gave us the intro and the memory verse for the weekend. Several other people showed up after that. a.k.a. Lizzy, Zakk, and Andrew. Then Mr. A explained what mock trial was, for the benefit of those who did not have a clue. Fortunately, I was not one of them, but so far it is always a pleasure to listen to Mr. A. After that we broke up into teams and decide who would do what part. I am now the “Defendant” a.k.a. Jesse Baldwin a.k.a. Insurance company representative. I am also an attorney on the plaintiff side. Most of our team had not done MT at all; one girl was in BT comp. last year and I was not exactly foreign to it, I just didn’t have any experience. I have my doubts about our team because we only have about 5 weeks till the court date. Oh, boy. So after we found out who was who we discussed what we have to get out of each witness. When we had work on that for a while we decided it was time to eat.
We ate hotdogs and s’mores. The hog were lukewarm but my s’more was really good.
After that we play capture the flag. We played it three times. I was on Ethan’s team twice and he got the flag twice so I guess I won twice. It was fun. (My legs hurt for about three days after that though.) Then we sat around the fire talking. That was interesting. I talked till about two then I went to bed. I believe some people got about a half an hour of sleep. Poor persons, they were wiped out the next day, which by the way started about 7 o’clock.
We started working on directs and things of that sort and around ten something the more experienced teams had a trial. Lack of sleep and lack of practice made for an interesting day. We ate lunch after the first scrimmage. Guess what we had, hotdogs. Uggg. I didn’t starve. After lunch my team went up against the better team. “shudder”. We were the plaintiff, my opening was umm.. let’s just say it needs some work (LOTS OF WORK). My direct rather stank but it will get better. I know it will! It had better get better or we’re in big trouble, that is why I know it will get better. We were some of the last people to leave. Mrs. K. took me home. She said I had potential it will just take some practice, (LOTS OF PRACTICE).
We met this past Monday and Thursday. I think it was productive. Half of my team didn’t show up and a couple of people I don’t even have their numbers. Eeekkk! One the girls if I don’t hear from her I will have to replace her. She didn’t really want to do it in the first place but Mr. A put her on our team. We’ll see.
The Atomic Tangerines are awesome!!!! I hope our team can be as good as theirs. They have been really nice about helping us too.
I have a lot of homework to do and much MT things to accomplish so I better get.
